I'm looking to add a dashcam to my 2021 black edition. I've done a fair amount of research but I figure many of you will have information that will help me decide on a brand and best installation process.
Please advise.....thanks.
I like dash cams and have used on the last two trucks I have owned I recently 12/21/21, bought a 2022 RTL-E Lunar Silver, Blk interior and in test drive saw a dash cam already installed by dealer as incentive, don't know brand but is a very nice unit, with small cam that shows back seat occupants. I have added a Undercover Undercover Ultraflex tonneau was going with OEM tonneau but waited 6 weeks and still back ordered but OEM side steps. Looking into tailgate LED lights ( also had on other trucks), but think I will go with PUTCO 48", longer warranty, 100% water proof and will handle the back up sensors and other with just plug and play. Not bought yet, but like feed back on this project. Thanks

I am a huge believer in dash cams. In the last 6 years I have experienced 3 collisions that my Garmin Nuvi Cam recorded in 1080. All 3 (to my Ridgelines) were 100 percent the other driver's fault. (There has been no argument with their insurance companies because of my videos). This last "hit" to my 2020 was just over $4,000. Members of my family now drive with dash cams because of the prevalence of unskilled drivers on the roads these days.

When my Rivian arrives (hopefully later this year) this dash cam is going on the windshield.

I added a azdome m550 dash cam. 3 views, front back and interior. Easy to install and good images. I used a obd2 switch for power, but it would turn off on long drives in cruise control. Lower voltage ??
I hooked it up with the fuse box tap kit. Easy and have had no problems so far.

I put an Extang solid fold 2.0
tonneau cover on my rig. Fit like a glove. I haven't had ANY water intrusion into the cab from the back window. I have used pressure washers and 5 days of pounding rain driving and sitting outside garage. No leaks.

I'm very happy with my purchase.
Go for it !

I have been fortunate in NOT having to rely on camera for proof of fault, but you never know. Atlanta drivers can be pretty crazy when they are not doing drive by shootings on the interstate. Will have a Rivian plant in GA in the near future.

It only takes one time for you to quickly learn why you needed a camera ;)

My 19yr old recently got into her first parking lot fender bender. She called us since she was nervous, when we got there the other driver started yelling, etc. at my kid. Off course they were blaming the teenager (my kid). We let it be changed info, etc.. I drove her car home and realized that I forgot I placed a Garmin Speak dashcam. That my friends changed everything, I submitted the video to our insurance and they determined that it was the others drivers fault.

I'm thinking of getting a 2CH cam for my kid's car. Debating on a q800 or dr750. Nothing wrong with the Garmin Speak except it doesn't have a rear cam.

I have the Thinkware U1000, great cam but sucky UI, IMO.

My dash Cam was dealer installed. did not request it, but glad I have . I have used many different dash cams over last few years, they all work well, some more $$ have nice features. I liked the one I had in my Tacoma, that instead of battery in it , had a capacitor, worked great for the very HOT summer heat in GA. Rove was camera , company out of Chicago area, as I recall and less than $200.00, good company and quick response at least when I needed.

I couldn't agree more. I have one on my Ridgeline. When a guy ran a stop and we collided several years ago, I volunteered my dashcam footage to the attending officer, but he said the guy already admitted fault and didn't need it. Go figure!

I have been unable to prevail on my other family members of the need for dash cams in their vehicles. 🤷‍♂️

Look at the Blackvue DR750X-Plus and you'll never want to buy another dash cam again. They are AWESOME and better than the Thinkware IMPO. The new Blackvue app is fantastic and super easy to se too.

Best price ?
Easy install steps documented by anyone ?
Yes...buy it from here and not Amazon so you have full support. Easy install...I will walk you through it. I have posted pics along with others on the installation but not difficult at all.

Buy the Polarizing Filter and nothing more. You can get your SD card and fuse taps off Amazon.

I've been using a Mercylion hidden dashcam in my Honda Ridgeline for the past year, and I love it. It's a dual-channel dashcam that records in 4K resolution, so I can capture everything that happens around me in crystal-clear detail. It also has a built-in GPS and Parking Mode, so I can track my car's location and record any incidents that happen while it's parked.

No rear channel is a deal killer for me.
